Blue Bird Houses—Albert Area

The Andersons, Harold and Kathleen, report 4 active bluebird nests with about 17 baby birds in all.  Also sited was a titmouse nest with 6 eggs plus 4 swallow nest with a total of 12 eggs. Five additional nests have been built but as of May 12th no eggs yet. It appears that someone decided they needed one of the blue bird homes for their home—the metal pole and all gone. Wide tire marks, a beer can and fishing bobbers were found. This mystery will probably not be solved. Continuing their reporting from this location, the following birds were observed:  blue-gray gnatcatcher, turkey vulture, red-tailed hawk, Eastern bluebird, killdeer, Eastern kingbird, red-winged blackbird, Northern bobwhite, Great blue heron. Heard only were Henslow’s sparrow, Bell’s vireo, Eastern towhee, and Eastern meadowlark.  Kathleen and Harold provide an important service to the Albert area and their reporting on the various birds common to the area.

June 2008 Summer Edition

CAS Members

The CAS Board of Directors has received two resignations.  Harold Anderson resigned as the co-chair of the Nature Areas after 13 years of dedicated service to the maintenance and cultivation of all three of CAS Nature Areas.  Serving as CAS Secretary for the past six years, Kathleen Anderson decided it was time for her to give up the pen.

Troy Gordon, a long-time member, died on April 25, 2008. A memorial gathering at Arrow Rock State Historic Site drew a crowd over 125 family and friends.  Troy recently shared at the May meeting his enthusiasm for a Honduras hummingbird he saw and captured a picture of the mother and two babies.  Future indepth articles will be presented on the Andersons and Troy.
